50 Taters 2 & Restaurant American restaurant

Overview

Walking into 50 Taters 2 & Restaurant for the first time felt like stepping into the kind of local diner people whisper about when they say, you have to try this place. It sits right at 770 Main St E, Rainsville, AL 35986, United States, easy to find, easy to park, and even easier to feel comfortable the moment you open the door. I stopped in on a busy weekday afternoon, and the place was humming with regulars who clearly knew exactly what they were ordering before they even glanced at the menu.

The menu itself reads like a love letter to comfort food. Loaded baked potatoes are the obvious stars, but they’re far from the only reason people keep coming back. You’ll see burgers stacked high, crispy fries, sandwiches that actually fill you up, and daily specials written on a board that locals check like a news update. One server told me they go through dozens of potatoes a day, which tracks with what I saw coming out of the kitchen-huge portions, steaming hot, and built with care rather than speed alone.

From experience working in food service years ago, I pay attention to kitchen flow and consistency. Here, orders moved smoothly even during a rush, which says a lot about the process behind the scenes. Potatoes are baked fresh, split open, and layered with toppings instead of being pre-assembled. That extra step matters. Research from the National Restaurant Association shows that freshness and customization rank among the top factors diners associate with food quality, and this place clearly leans into both.

Reviews around town often describe the food as home cooked comfort, and that phrase fits without exaggeration. One customer I chatted with mentioned driving over 30 minutes just for lunch because the portions stretch into dinner. Another regular swore by the bacon cheeseburger, saying it’s the same every single time, which is one of the hardest things for any restaurant to pull off consistently. According to industry data from Yelp, consistency is one of the most common reasons small diners earn repeat business, and it’s something this location seems to understand deeply.

The atmosphere stays casual and friendly. There’s no pressure to rush, and conversations flow easily between tables. That kind of environment doesn’t happen by accident. It’s usually the result of staff training, leadership, and a clear sense of what the restaurant wants to be. In this case, it’s not trying to chase trends. It’s focused on feeding people well and making them feel welcome.

I did notice that the dining area isn’t huge, which can mean a short wait during peak hours. That’s worth knowing ahead of time, especially on weekends. Still, most folks I saw waiting didn’t seem bothered, and takeout orders moved quickly for those on a tighter schedule.

If you care about value, portion size, and food that tastes the way it should, this spot checks all the boxes. It’s the kind of restaurant where menu favorites become habits and habits turn into weekly routines. The combination of generous servings, friendly service, and a clear focus on quality explains why local reviews stay strong year after year. For anyone passing through Rainsville or calling it home, this diner earns its reputation the honest way-one plate at a time.

Best ribeye around!! Always cooked to perfection and seasoned well no steak sauce required. The BBQ is also great not fatty and not too smokey. Actually, everything i have tried on the menu has been good. This place is a must for good eats!

Great food, but it does a little too long to get your food. I got the excuse that it’s cooked to order. It’s pulled pork. It’s a pulled pork salad, unless I waited 12 hours, I don’t think so. It’s a great place though . It would also be nice if the person behind the counter wasn’t the same one taking phoned in to go orders
